Do not let your baggage out of your sight, even for a short time. Opportunistic thieves will always go for the easy option. If you are distracted and not keeping a close eye on your bags, you could be a target. Never leave your luggage with a stranger to look after.
Be Discreet. You never know who is watching you, particularly if you are in a crowded or unfamiliar area. Avoid opening your luggage and displaying the contents, as you could be showing potential thieves expensive gadgets and clothes you have packed in your suitcase. If you have to leave your bags in a parked car, keep them hidden away in the trunk and make sure the doors are locked and windows closed.
Use safety locks. Buy safety locks to secure the luggage that you check in when flying. Make sure the locks are approved by the Transportation Security Administration.This allows airport security professionals to have access with a master key if they need to inspect your bags, but makes it more difficult for others to open if the luggage falls into the wrong hands.
Attach two sturdy identity tags to your bag to prevent loss. If one tag gets ripped off in transit, the other one will be in place so your bag can still be traced back to you. Place identification details on the inside of your suitcase, including your cell phone number and hotel address.This will help airline staff find you if your luggage gets lost.
Don't pack valuables, such as expensive jewelry, in your check-in luggage. Keep these items with you in your carry-on baggage.
Use identifiable luggage. You will reduce the chance of someone taking your bag from an airport or anywhere else, if your luggage is easy to spot. Black or navy suitcases are not easy to distinguish, but suitcases with unusual patterns or bright colors are eye-catching and more difficult to steal.
