Remove all clothes and other items from the suitcase. Wash and dry all clothes that were packed in the luggage.
Lay the suitcase onto a flat surface. Pour 1 cup baking soda into a small plastic bowl. Place the bowl into the suitcase. Close and secure the suitcase lid. Allow the baking soda to sit in the suitcase for up to seven days to neutralize unwanted aromas.
Remove the bowl of baking soda. Place four fresh dryer sheets into the suitcase. Close and secure the lid for 48 hours to give your suitcase a fresh smell.
Dump 1/2 cup cedar wood shavings into a mesh bag. Place the bag into the suitcase. Close and secure the lid for 48 hours. Wood shavings are an additional option for giving your luggage a fresh, outdoor-like smell. Place the wood shavings directly into the luggage -- minus the bag -- to help absorb any damp or minimal puddles of spilled fragrance.
