How to Send Directions to a Cell Phone

If you don't want to print out pages of maps and directions or if you simply want to have a back-up copy of directions, consider sending the directions to your cell phone. There are two ways to send directions to your cell phone: through an email or through a text message. Google Maps, MapQuest and Yahoo! Local Maps offer the option to send the directions to an email address, while MapQuest can send them directly to your phone through a text message.

Instructions

  1. Google Maps

    • 1

Click on "Get Directions." Enter your starting and ending locations in the "A" and "B" fields in the order of street name, city, state, zip code and country, if applicable.

If you wish, you can search for driving, walking and biking directions as well as directions via public transit. Click on the corresponding icons on top of the "A" and "B" fields before clicking on "Get Directions."

    • 2

Select your preferred route. Google Maps may offer several suggested routes that will avoid major highways or toll roads, so select the route that suits your travel preferences and budget.

    • 3

Click on the "Send" link, which is located above the upper-right corner of the map. Additionally, you can send the directions to your car or GPS.

To send directions to your e-mail address, click on the "Email" tab.

    • 4

Determine the recipient and add a message if you want to add any specific notes to this set of directions. Click on "Send."

    MapQuest

    • 5

Click on the "Directions" tab at the top of the website. Enter the Start and End locations in the text boxes. If you are unsure about either of the addresses, you can use the "Find a Business" section to locate the address of airports, hotels, train stations or other businesses.

    • 6

Send the directions to another device. After ensuring the accuracy of the directions, click on the "Send" link, which should be located at the bottom of the map. In addition to sending directions to an email address or your cell phone, you can send the map and directions to a GPS navigational system.

    • 7

Click on the "Send to Cell" tab. If you have an account at MapQuest.com, you can access phone numbers through your My Places profile.

    • 8

If you don't have an account, enter the recipient's phone number and create a title for your map and directions.

    • 9

Click "Send" and wait for a few minutes to check your cell phone for the message.

    Yahoo! Maps

    • 10

Enter your starting and ending locations under the "Get Map and Directions" field.

    • 11

Add another destination. Yahoo! Maps also has the option of adding additional locations, so if you have a third destination, enter its address in the corresponding field. Click on "Go."

    • 12

Adjust your route. Yahoo! Maps offers the option of adjusting your route by clicking on the purple-route line and dragging the line to create a new route. Use this option if you want to drive through a certain place or avoid major highways.

    • 13

Send the map and directions to an email address. Click on the "Send" tab above the upper-left corner of the map. Specify that you want to "Send by Email."

    • 14

Fill in the fields, add a personal message and click "Send."
