Is a Mountain a Place or a Thing? Geographic Classification

A mountain is a natural landform—a place—defined as a significant elevation of the Earth's surface rising to a summit, typically exceeding 2,000 feet (610 m) in height, with a limited base area.

While we may refer to "a mountain" as a noun (a thing), geographically it is a specific location with spatial extent, making it a place.
