The Medora Musical: North Dakota's Signature Entertainment

North Dakota's most famous entertainment is the Medora Musical, a professional variety show staged nightly each summer (June–September) in the open-air Burning Hills Amphitheatre near Medora.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Badlands and Little Missouri River Valley, the show blends music, dance, comedy, and patriotism to tell the story of the American West, Theodore Roosevelt's time in Dakota, and the state's heritage. Created in 1965 by businessman/legislator Harold Schafer, it has drawn over 3 million spectators.

The two-hour production features a live band, the "Burning Hills Singers," and elaborate sets. It is the centerpiece of the Medora tourism experience, alongside the Pitchfork Fondue, trail rides, and the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame.
