North Korea's Supreme Leader: Kim Jong Un

Kim Jong Un has ruled North Korea as Supreme Leader since December 2011, following the death of his father, Kim Jong Il. He represents the third generation of the Kim dynasty, founded by his grandfather Kim Il Sung in 1948.

Kim holds the titles of General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, President of the State Affairs Commission, and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. His regime is characterized by totalitarian control, a pervasive cult of personality, nuclear weapons development, and severe human rights abuses documented by the UN and NGOs. Despite international sanctions and isolation, he has consolidated power through purges, propaganda, and a strategy of "byungjin" (simultaneous nuclear and economic development).
