How to Party on the Las Vegas Strip on New Year's Eve

Over 40 million visitors trek to the Las Vegas Strip during 364 days out of the year, but Sin City cranks up the party on the 365th day to ring in the New Year. According to the Nevada Tourism Commission, as of 2009 an estimated 300,000 visitors flock to the Las Vegas strip for New Years Eve, and the Nevada Travel Commission expects that figure to soar in the coming years. A multitude of celebrities and A-list entertainers visit the Las Vegas strip every year for a one of a kind Vegas-style New Year's celebration, dubbed America's Party. Attending the largest New Year's celebration west of the Mississippi River isn't typically for the budget traveler. Hotels, clubs and restaurants increase their prices during New Year's Eve in anticipation of the large crowds, so plan for a fun-filled celebration with elevated costs from the regular travel season.

Plan your trip ahead of time by purchasing airline tickets and reserving a hotel a few months in advance of the New Year. Not only will airline seats and hotel rooms fill quickly, the longer you wait to book travel accommodations, the more your travel costs increase. Consider foregoing an over the top hotel room to conserve funds; besides, the majority of your activities take place outside of your room on the strip.

Pack warm clothes for the duration of your Las Vegas trip. Las Vegas resides in the middle of the desert and temperatures can drop fairly low at night. Additionally, temperatures in Las Vegas during the month of January can fall as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so bundle up for your night out on the strip.

    • 3

Head to the Las Vegas strip as early as possible if the activities in the earlier portion of your day take place off of the strip. The authorities barricade outside traffic from the strip around 6 PM to prevent overcrowding and monitor party-goers.

    • 4

Attend a star-studded party or shows hosted on the strip by clubs such as Luxor, Trio and Encore to take a break from gambling. Prepare yourself to pay hefty cover charges just to attend these fabulous parties, says the Las Vegas Sun, but since this is a rare opportunity to see so many stars in the same room, consider the experience worth the investment.

Enjoy the fireworks show launched from the rooftops of hotels such as the MGM Grand and Caesar's Palace when the clock strikes 12 midnight. According to Las Vegas How To Guide, most hotels, restaurants and clubs notify guests to head outside around 11 p.m to view the spectacular fireworks show. Consider heading outside a few hours earlier than 11 p.m to reserve a clear view. Note, many hotels lock their doors around 11 p.m as well, so take a bathroom break before heading outside to prevent any mishaps.
