How to Ride the Las Vegas Monorail

The four-mile stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard known as "The Strip" is home to some of the most famous casinos in the world. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States, the Strip is constantly gridlocked, day and night. Luckily, the Las Vegas monorail is now open, and makes a great alternative to sitting in traffic. With stops up and down the Strip, the monorail can transport you from MGM at the south end to the Sahara at the north end, all in less then 15 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a map of the monorail; they're available at the official monorail Website, at most Las Vegas tourism Websites and at most major casinos and hotels on the Strip.

    • 2

Use your map to find out which stations you need to use. There are seven stations along the monorail's route: MGM, Ballys/Paris, Flamingo, Harrahs, Convention Center, Las Vegas Hilton and Sahara. Choose the station closest to your starting location and destination.

    • 3

Study the monorail's schedule to be sure it will work for you. Trains run from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday through Sunday. Trains run every 4-12 minutes, with 5-6 minute intervals being the average during peak times.

Purchase your tickets. You can buy tickets online, at ticket machines at each station, or at the concierge desk in most casinos. A single ride costs $5, or an all-day pass is available for $9.

Go to your starting station, board the train, and wait for the conductor to announce your destination. Enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of the monorail, knowing you are bypassing the traffic on the Strip.
