No breeding population of mountain lions (cougars/pumas) exists in Minnesota. The species was extirpated by the early 1900s. The DNR confirms zero established residents.
Rare dispersers: Since 2000, ~20 verified sightings (trail cams, tracks, scat, one roadkill in 2022) — all young males wandering from the Black Hills (SD) or Nebraska. They do not stay; no females, no reproduction.
If you see one: do not run; make yourself large; back away slowly; report to DNR. But the odds are vanishingly small—bobcats and lynx are the native felids.
