The first White House of the Confederacy (Feb–May 1861) was in Montgomery, Alabama—the initial Confederate capital. After Virginia seceded, the capital moved to Richmond, where a different mansion (the "White House of the Confederacy" at 1201 E. Clay St.) served as Jefferson Davis's executive residence (1861–1865). The Montgomery house is now a museum; the Richmond house is also a museum and National Historic Landmark.
