Context

Vinson is one of the Seven Summits (highest peak on each continent). It's non-technical (glacier travel, crevasse rescue skills required) but brutally cold and remote. The Ellsworth Mountains are geologically distinct from the Transantarctic Range—formed by crustal uplift, not tectonic collision.

Climbing window: November–January. Cost: ~$40,000–50,000 with guide services.
