What were the two countries of North Carolina?
North Carolina was never divided into two countries. It was originally an English colony established in the 16th century and named Carolina. Around 1712, the colony became divided into two provinces: North Carolina and South Carolina, which were separated through a boundary that ran approximately southwest from the Atlantic coast. Later on, the two provinces became separate colonies and eventually separate states.
