Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia, renowned for its rich blend of history, Civil War era architecture and natural beauty. This lush, tree-lined, walkable city is located along the banks of the Savannah River and near the Georgia Intercoastal Waterway. The location makes it an ideal destination for RVers, because it offers the ability to camp in a rustic setting just 20 minutes away from the downtown area. Two local RV campgrounds include Skidaway Island State Park and River's Edge Campground on Tybee Island, which feature utility hookups and modern amenities such as laundromats.
Experience the charm of authentic New England, by visiting Bar Harbor, Maine, known throughout the world for its lobster fishing fleets, quaint seaside setting and the rustic natural beauty of Acadia National Park. RVers have numerous parks to choose from, which means that finding a place to stay is rarely a challenge, even during summertime. Must-see attractions include whale watching and lighthouse tours, and exploring Acadia National Park which is home to Mount Cadillac, the tallest mountain on the East Coast. But don't take your RV into town, because Bar Harbor's narrow streets are congested and difficult to navigate in all but the smallest RVs.
The Redwood Coast of California is home to the oldest, tallest trees in the world and a rich, diverse rain-forest ecosystem, which can be intimately experienced by camping in one of the state, national or private RV parks between Humboldt County and the Oregon border. For a more urban camping experience, try an RV park in the centrally located cities of Eureka or Arcata. A trip to the region wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Saturday Farmer's Market in Arcata, voted one of the best adventure towns in America, according to "National Geographic Adventure" magazine.
