Oceans Not Touching North America: Two, Not Four

Only two of the world's five oceans do not border North America:

• Indian Ocean - Bounded by Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica
• Southern Ocean - Encircles Antarctica south of 60°S latitude

The three oceans that DO touch North America are:

• Atlantic Ocean - Eastern coastline from Arctic to Gulf of Mexico
• Pacific Ocean - Western coastline from Arctic to Central America
• Arctic Ocean - Northern coastline including northern Canada, Alaska, and Greenland

This gives North America coastline on three oceans, more than any continent except possibly Asia (which also borders three: Arctic, Pacific, Indian).
