The Mississippi River Touches 10 States, Not 6

The Mississippi River flows through or borders 10 states, not 6:

  1. Minnesota (source at Lake Itasca)
  2. Wisconsin
  3. Iowa
  4. Illinois
  5. Missouri
  6. Kentucky
  7. Tennessee
  8. Arkansas
  9. Mississippi
  10. Louisiana (mouth at Gulf of Mexico)

It forms the entire or partial border for all except Minnesota and Louisiana (where it flows through the state). The "6 states" figure may confuse it with the Ohio River (6 states) or an outdated count.
