Located on Red River’s Main Street, the New Mexico Adventure Company organizes ski and snow activities in the winter, but in summer, activities are all about off-roading. Guides conduct a three-hour jeep tour that includes panning for gold and spotting elk and bear. There are discounts for senior citizens and children younger than 12. If you prefer to go it alone on your own tour, the company has Jeep Wranglers for rent.

Fast Eddie’s has been in business in Red River for over 15 years and notes that it's the only jeep tour in town to offer year-round tours and rentals and the only tour company to hold a permit with the Carson National Forest Service. Local guides provide anecdotes about the town’s glory days for prospectors and trappers and point out any bears that might be lurking among the flora and fauna. Guides have two-way radios on board and are trained in first aid and CPR in case of an emergency. Pets are welcome on board, and while reservations are encouraged, the company does accept walk-ins.

Red River Offroad offers a jeep tour of hidden gems along Old Red River Pass, Goose Lake and Greenie Peak. The tour, in 7-to-8-person vehicles, takes you to an elevation of more than 11,000 feet for views of surrounding valleys, mountain streams and aspen groves that are dotted with ghost towns, old settlers’ camps and abandoned gold mines. There’s a chance to pan for gold and time to enjoy your sack lunch. Tours leave at 9.30 a.m., but the company also runs occasional sunset tours.
