Red River is a town in northern New Mexico located about 35 miles from Taos. Situated on the Enchanted Circle, a scenic mountain loop through the Carson National Forest in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, Red River was once a mining town. Today, it offers outdoor recreation activities year-round. Along with the Red River Ski Area, visitors come to this area to enjoy fishing, white-water rafting, cycling, mountain biking, hiking or climbing the summit at Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's highest point at 13,161 feet. River Retreat Cabins are situated on the banks of Red River within a few feet of the town's trolley, which provides guests with easy access to restaurants, shops and the base of the ski area. There are six, two-story cabins that sleep up to eight people, featuring rustic exteriors that hark back to Red River's mining days. The interior is cozy, offering guests three bedrooms, two baths and an upstairs balcony with mountain views overlooking the river. Each cabin also has a full kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, crock pot, toaster and dishes/flatware for up to eight people.
