Ruidoso is a booming village located in the mountains between Alamagordo and Roswell in southeastern New Mexico. It is a beautiful and serene destination with something for everyone from skiing down the majestic Sierra Blanca, to golf and other outdoor adventures. During the summer, you are bound to see or encounter bears, and elk, mule deer, and wild turkeys can be seen year-round. Ruidoso offers shopping and an active nightlife, or if you prefer the sounds of silence, secluded properties abound. Lodging is available at modest prices even during the peak season, November through April. When visiting in the winter, vehicles should be equipped with snow tires or chains.

Canyon Cabins has a variety of cabins that will accommodate two to 10 people. Anglers and hikers will enjoy being just a few minutes from Rio Ruidoso, and shoppers and gamblers can take shuttles to the downtown and casinos around town. Canyon Cabins charges per person, per night with rates ranging from $78 to $185; call for peak-season rates. Pets are not allowed.

    Cozy Cabins

    • Cozy Cabins has a central office which offers a variety of properties around town. Sites include the Carrizo Creek Cabin, just 1.5 miles away from Casino Apache, and Granite House in the White Mountain area, which is more private. The company also has Chama House, a nine-acre property in the Ranches of Sonterra near Alto, and several properties in Upper Canyon. The highlight is The Grizz, a complete and authentic log cabin, which accommodates 13 people, on one acre in Alto. Each of Cozy Cabin's properties offers something special to appeal to visitors. For instance, the Sleepy Swallow's owners offer their box seats at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack, while some of the others allow pets. Prices range from $130 to $300 during the off-season and $200 to $525 during the holidays.

    Whispering Pine Cabins

    • Whispering Pine Cabins offer the privacy of a cabin in a community atmosphere. The Upper Canyon location means that visitors are close to Rio Ruidoso, the Lincoln National Forest and the downtown shopping area. Several cabins sleep six to 12 people and will accept pets. Whispering Pine Cabins have whirlpools, a community hot tub and some cabins have wireless Internet. The owners have teamed with Ski Apache and Wild West Ski Shop to offer special ski packages with their cabins. Whispering Pine Cabins has a link to Spencer Theaters Select, allowing avid theater buffs to reserve tickets even before they go on sale. Prices range from $99 to $275 during the off-season and $125 to $450 during peak season.
