Logging companies enter the rainforests to take down trees they need. These companies bring in huge machinery to the rainforest, which destroys more vegetation than necessary. They cut down the trees, causing everything near the tree to come down with it. This leaves a huge hole that doesn't repair itself for hundreds of years. The tracks of the machinery also disrupt the soil and cause major damage. Logging companies are interested in only a small number of trees, yet cause major damage in the process.
As mining and industrial development progresses, more and more land is needed to use for these projects. Companies have no choice but to move toward the rainforests. Parts of the rainforests are cleared for work and roads are then built on land that was previously covered naturally. This opens up the rainforest to water, air and land pollution, which, in turn, causes even more problems.
Many believe that the growing population is the biggest destroying factor for the rainforests. The more people that exist, the more land that is needed, and therefore, more wood is needed for products. Population grows rapidly -- but land does not. The amount of land always stays the same so new ways to create land need to be found. The easiest solution is by cutting into the rainforests.
Besides damaged caused by humans, rainforests are severely damaged naturally. Forest fires destroy tons of land, leaving large spaces in ashes. Floods and landslides are also common in rainforests, causing major damage to forests all around the world. The floods and landslides are extremely strong, which also damages areas around the rainforests and leaves many people without homes.
