Things That an 18 Year Old Can Do in New York City

New York City offers a variety of activities for an 18-year-old whether you are a resident of the city, or just a visitor. Some activities will challenge you physically and allow you to explore the outdoor beauty of New York City. Others offer unique dining opportunities within the city, or that special location to share time with a loved one in The Big Apple.
  1. Attend A Baseball Game

    • Major league baseball is not the only baseball game for spectators in New York City. The Brooklyn Cyclones play in the New York Penn League for minor league baseball and offer an affordable option for 18-year-old's to attend a baseball game. Individual tickets range in price from $8 to $17 per game. The team offers promotions at the games for ticket holders that give them items ranging from free or discounted food to free souvenirs such as t-shirts with the team logo on them on specific nights.

    Jekyll and Hyde Club

    • The Jeckyll and Hyde Club offers an opportunity to enjoy a meal and watch a show at the same time. This restaurant is not your average dining experience. Instead as you are eating you may see some of the pictures on the walls surrounding you appear to change or move. No, it's not your mind playing tricks on you, it's part of the show for anyone dining there. Speaking of the show, there are also live actors in costume that will appear from time to time to "scare you". While it's not very scary, it's a unique activity for an 18-year-old in New York that she won't experience in most other restaurants.

Outdoor Activities on Piers 62 and 63 At Hudson River Park

    • If you want to show off your skateboarding skills, you can skate from eight in the morning until dusk each day for free at Hudson River Park. It's also a destination to take your date to during the day for a picnic in the park with a large lawn area to set up a blanket and enjoy your lunch while watching the activities surrounding you or relaxing with your partner. Take a relaxing walk through the rock garden admiring the beauty of nature, or return to your childhood with a ride on the merry-go-round for just $2 per ride per person to finish off your date in the park.

    Explore A Castle

    • There aren't many cities where you can go back in time and explore a castle, but New York City is one of them. Belvedere Castle was built in 1869 and can be toured by 18-year-olds when visiting Central Park; it's at 79th Street. The castle offers breathtaking views from the top tower, allowing you to see much of the city. If you are thinking about proposing to your girlfriend or maybe just asking that someone special to be your girlfriend, this is a romantic opportunity. There is also a bird observatory at the castle to see and learn about various species of birds from the area.
