The first landscaped public park in the United States, Central Park is known as the backyard of New York City and is the crown jewel of the city's expansive park system. Open to bikers, runners, walkers and all manner of sport enthusiasts year-round, Central Park is the host to dozens of running races. The annual New York City Marathon in November ends there after threading its way through all five boroughs of this vast metropolis. The park separates the East Side from the West. It offers places to sun yourself, theater and concerts and it's all free and open to the public.
