Major Cities Sharing Chicago's Central Time Zone (CT)
The Central Time Zone (UTC−6 / UTC−5 DST) spans a vast swath of North America. Major metropolitan areas sharing Chicago's time include:
Midwest & Great Lakes
- Chicago, IL (anchor)
- Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN
- St. Louis, MO
- Kansas City, MO/KS
- Indianapolis, IN* (most of state; observe DST since 2006)
- Milwaukee, WI
- Detroit, MI* (officially Eastern, but colloquially grouped; see note)
- Cleveland, OH* (Eastern Time Zone—correction: not CT)
South & Gulf Coast
- Dallas–Fort Worth, TX
- Houston, TX
- New Orleans, LA
- Memphis, TN
- Birmingham, AL
- Mobile, AL
- Baton Rouge, LA
- Little Rock, AR
- Oklahoma City, OK
- Tulsa, OK
Plains & Mountain Fringe
- Omaha, NE
- Wichita, KS
- Lubbock, TX
- Amarillo, TX
Important Clarifications
- Indiana: Most counties observe Eastern Time; only NW (Gary) and SW (Evansville) regions are on CT.
- Michigan: Entire state is Eastern Time (except 4 UP counties). Detroit/Cleveland are not in CT.
- Texas: Only El Paso/Hudspeth counties observe Mountain Time.
- DST: All listed U.S. cities observe Daylight Saving Time (second Sunday March – first Sunday November). Saskatchewan (Canada) does not.
