Turkey is the principal country on the southern coast of the Black Sea, while the eastern coast is comprised of the Republic of Georgia and Russia. The northern Black Sea region includes parts of Russia and the Ukraine, while the western coast is taken up by Romania, Bulgaria and part of Turkey.
The Bosphorus Strait connects the European and Asian sides of Turkey's capital city of Istanbul, but it also separates the Black Sea, to Turkey's north, from the Sea of Marmara, to the south.
The Sea of Marmara is located on the southern side of Istanbul, between the section of land containing Istanbul and the rest of Turkey. The Sea of Marmara connects to the Aegean Sea, separating Turkey and Greece.
The Aegean Sea is located on the eastern and northern coasts of Greece and the western coast of Turkey. The Sea of Marmara to the east flows into the Aegean Sea, while the Aegean Sea connects to the Mediterranean Sea in the south.
The Mediterranean Sea is located between the southern coasts of Europe, the eastern coast of Asia and the northern coast of Africa. To the east are Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. The European coastline runs from Turkey all the way to Spain and Portugal, while the African coast runs from Egypt all the way to Morocco. The Aegean Sea flows into the Mediterranean Sea around the southern coast of Greece. The Mediterranean Sea then flows into the Atlantic to the west of the Strait of Gibraltar.
The Strait of Gibraltar is the final waterway in the chain of waterways separating the Black Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. The Strait itself separates the Mediterranean Sea to the east from the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It spans 15 miles, from the southern coast of Spain at Cadiz to the northern coast of Morocco at Tangier. There is a ferry that connects these two cities.
