What Country Has the Most Turbines?

Wind energy is growing all over the globe. Countries like Denmark supply 20 percent of the population's energy use with wind turbines, says the website Bionomic Fuel. Although many countries produce more wind power by leaps and bounds each year, one country stands out as the clear winner.
  1. Leader

    • The United States currently holds first place for the most wind capacity, according to The Los Angeles Times. As of February 2010, the U.S. had 35 gigawatts of wind power. This means they have the most wind turbines to produce that power than any other country.

    The Most Improved Country

    • China represents one country showing great improvement in wind power and turbine production. In 2009, China produced 13 gigawatts of power compared to 10 gigwatts produced by the U.S. in the same year, says the Los Angeles Times. Worldwide, total wind capacity increased 31 percent in 2009, but an entire third came from China's production.

    Benefits

    • Wind power has so many benefits. It produces no greenhouse gas emissions or pollution, reports the website Bionomic Fuel. It also represents a renewable source of energy, which decreases dependence on foreign fossil fuels.

    Growth

    • Each year countries erect new turbines and increase their total wind power. The 31 percent global wind power growth in 2009 left the world with 157.9 total gigawatts. Many countries work to improve their turbine numbers each year, including Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and India, says Bionomic Fuel.

    Jobs

    • More and more wind power and turbine manufacturing creates more jobs. The 2009 turbine installation market totaled $63 billion in worth. Half a million people have a job in the wind power industry, reports the Wind Energy Council in the Los Angeles Times. All over the world countries employ more people each year working with wind turbines.
