Kosher Restaurants in Buenos Aires

Argentina's massive capital city of Buenos Aires is a fascinating mix of European, Middle Eastern, indigenous and even Asian influences. Argentina is home to the largest Jewish population in all of Latin America, and a substantial number of them live in Buenos Aires. Kosher restaurants aren't exactly common in Buenos Aires but you can find them, especially in neighborhoods with large Jewish populations such as Once and Tribunales.
  1. Mama Jacinta

    • This small kosher restaurant between Once and Recoleta opened in 1999. Owner José Mizrahi envisioned Mamá Jacinta as a tribute to the cooking of his Syrian Sephardic grandmother, and what you'll find here is Argentine cuisine with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean accents. Mizrahi cooks most of the food himself, specializing in both fish and chicken dishes. If you're tired of eating the ubiquitous empanadas served in nearly every restaurant in the city, try one of Mama Jacinta's kibbe, a meat filled dumpling popular in the Middle East. Mama Jacinta features large portions that are ideal for sharing, making it a good spot for a special occasion.

    Al Galope

    • On the surface, this traditional Argentine parrilla in the heart of Once may seem like any other in the city, but, unlike countless others in Buenos Aires, Al Galope is 100 percent kosher. Jewish families from around Buenos Aires flock to Al Galope for its juicy steaks, casual atmosphere and variety of Middle Eastern dishes like pitas with hummus and baklava. One of the city's most popular kosher restaurants, Al Galope is an excellent choice for those with dietary restriction who don't want to miss out on the Argentine steak experience. You can even wash down your steak with a glass of kosher Argentine wine chosen from Al Galope's extensive list.

    McDonald's Kosher

    • Coming all the way to Argentina only to eat at McDonald's may seem like a curious choice, but this particular one in Abasto shopping mall is no ordinary McDonald's. The only kosher McDonald's outside of Israel, this veritable tourist attraction is a true anomaly. Under strict rabbi supervision McDonald's Kosher serves everything you'd expect to find at the ubiquitous mega chain---burgers, fries, chicken nuggets---but you won't find any dairy or pork products on the menu. Regular McDonald's customers may notice differences in taste and texture from what they're used to in the United States, but McDonald's Kosher is still remarkably similar to the international standard.
