Camiguin Island: The 'Island Born of Fire' in the Southern Philippines

Camiguin Island lies in the Bohol Sea, about 8 km (5 miles) off the northern coast of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Coordinates: 9°12′N 124°43′E. It belongs to the province of Camiguin (north and west) and Misamis Oriental (east). Known as the "Island Born of Fire" for its seven volcanoes — including the active Hibok-Hibok — Camiguin features hot springs, waterfalls, white-sand beaches, and the famous Sunken Cemetery. Its small size (238 km²) and rich biodiversity make it a rising eco-tourism gem.
