There is no continent directly north of South America. Instead, the region is bordered by the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, and the nations of Central America (connecting to North America). Further north lie the United States and Canada on the North American continent.
The boundary between South and North America is generally considered the Isthmus of Panama, making Central America the land bridge rather than a separate continent.
