Why did it take so long for early people to reach south America?

It is generally believed that the first humans reached South America around 15,000 years ago. This was made possible by the presence of a land bridge between Asia and North America, known as the Bering Strait, which allowed people to migrate across.

However, it is important to note that the Bering Strait was not always passable. During the last ice age, which ended around 10,000 years ago, sea levels were much lower, exposing the land bridge and allowing for migration. Once the ice age ended, sea levels rose again, flooding the land bridge and making it impassable once more. This is why it took so long for early humans to reach South America.
