What territory was located south of the Ohio River?

The territory located south of the Ohio River was known as the Southwest Territory. It was established by the United States government in 1790 and included the present-day states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi. The Southwest Territory was created as a result of the Land Ordinance of 1785, which provided for the orderly settlement of the public lands in the West. The territory was initially governed by a governor and three judges appointed by the president of the United States. In 1796, the Southwest Territory was divided into two territories: the Mississippi Territory and the Tennessee Territory.
