Did Choctaw like it in Mississippi?
The Choctaw people did not like living in Mississippi. They had been forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in the Southeast by the United States government in the 1830s, and many Choctaw died during the journey to Mississippi known as the Trail of Tears. Once in Mississippi, the Choctaw faced harsh living conditions and were often mistreated by white settlers. In 1837, the Choctaw signed a treaty with the United States government that ceded most of their land in Mississippi and allowed them to move to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma.
