Find transportation. Lan Chile, an airline operating from Santiago, will fly you into Easter Island. Once there, public transportation is limited. Due to the rugged terrain of the land, renting a 4-wheel drive jeep is the best option.
Make lodging arrangements ahead of time. Easter Island has a limited number of hotels. Don't expect to find a Holiday Inn or a Hilton on the Island, because all Easter Island hotels are locally owned and fairly small in size. Not all accept credit cards, so it is best to travel with traveler's cheques.
Enjoy some of the many things to do on Easter Island. Obviously, when visiting any Pacific Island, swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling are popular past times. Some surfing takes place on Easter Island near Hanga Roa. You can also pay a fisherman to either take you on a fishing trip or just for a boat ride.
Plan to spend quite a bit of money of food, even if you buy your own groceries. All food on Easter Island is expensive whether you choose to buy your own groceries or eat in a restaurant. The water on Easter Island is safe to drink. You can choose to drink the mineral filled water from the tap or buy bottled water from village stores and vendors.
Visit some of the archaeological sites on the island. There are several tour guide agencies once you arrive on the mainland. For safety reasons, it is always best to go on an excursion with a group. Several archaeological sites are open across the island. Sites should be respected at all times.
