Who was the Hawaii islands named after.?

The Hawaiian islands are named after the legendary Polynesian navigator, Hawaiʻiloa. According to Hawaiian oral history, Hawaiʻiloa led a group of voyagers from Kahiki (Tahiti) to the islands around the 4th century CE. It is believed that Hawaiʻiloa named the islands after his home island of Hawaiki.
