Are the Carnary Islands named for yellow songbird?

The Canary Islands were not named after the small yellow migratory songbird.

Canary is derived from Latin: Canaria “the island on which large dogs are found“. Canary is ultimately derived from a Berber language name for Gran Canaria "large island for dogs".
