Latitudes North of Arctic Circle & South of Antarctic Circle: High Latitudes

The regions **north of the Arctic Circle (66°34′N)** and **south of the Antarctic Circle (66°34′S)** are classified as **high latitude** regions (also called **polar regions**).

• Low latitudes: 0°–30° (tropics/subtropics).
• Middle latitudes: 30°–60° (temperate zones).
• High latitudes: 60°–90° (subarctic/subantarctic to polar).

The Arctic and Antarctic Circles mark the latitudes where the sun remains continuously above or below the horizon for at least one day per year (midnight sun / polar night). These are unequivocally **high latitude zones**.
