Is the Hawaii big island part of a country?

The Big Island of Hawaii, also known as Hawaii Island, is part of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The island does not belong to any other country but the United States. Hawaii became a U.S. territory in 1898 and later became the 50th state in 1959. As a part of the United States, the Big Island of Hawaii is subject to U.S. laws and is represented in the U.S. government.
