Pacific Tsunami Warning Center: Mission and Location

Purpose

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) monitors the entire Pacific Basin to issue timely tsunami warnings and watches for the U.S. (including Hawaii, Alaska, territories) and international partners. Its goal: save lives and property by providing early alerts for tsunamis generated by earthquakes, landslides, or volcanic eruptions.

Location

Ewa Beach, Hawaii (Oahu). Operated by NOAA's National Weather Service. The mid-Pacific position enables continuous seismic and sea-level monitoring from a vast sensor network.
