Future of the Pacific Ocean in 200 Million Years

Geodynamic models predict the Pacific Ocean will largely close within ~200–300 million years. As the Pacific Plate continues subducting under Eurasia and the Americas, the basin shrinks. Simultaneously, the Atlantic widens. Eventually, the continents may amalgamate into a new supercontinent—often called Amasia (America + Asia)—centered on the North Pole. The Pacific's demise is the flip side of the supercontinent cycle that created Pangaea.
