Has London eye paid for itself?

The London Eye has paid for itself several times over. It cost around £70 million to build and opened in 2000. By 2008, it had welcomed more than 50 million visitors and generated over £1 billion in revenue. In addition, it brought an estimated £2.5 billion to the local economy in its first decade of operation.
