Capital punishment by hanging was abolished in stages across the UK:

• Scotland: 1960 (for murder)
• England, Wales, Northern Ireland: 1965 (for murder)
• Treason: 1998 (all UK jurisdictions)

The last executions occurred in 1964 (England) and 1963 (Scotland). The death penalty for all crimes was fully abolished in 1998 under the Human Rights Act.
