What happened in London 1666?
In 1666, London was ravaged by a Great Fire that lasted for four days and destroyed a large part of the city. The fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and quickly spread due to the tightly packed wooden buildings and narrow streets. The strong winds at the time also contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Despite efforts to contain it, the fire continued to burn and eventually consumed over 80% of the city, including St. Paul's Cathedral and many other historic buildings. Approximately 100,000 Londoners were left homeless as a result of the Great Fire.
