What kind of money did people have in England 1605?
The English pound was first introduced in 1489. However, this was a unit of account consisting of 20 shillings, or 240 pence, rather than a coin. Gold coins called sovereigns and half sovereigns were introduced, but because of their high value, they were relatively rare. In circulation, there were mainly groats (four pence), half groats, threepence, pennies, halfpennies, and farthings.
