According to the latest crime statistics released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the areas with the highest crime rates in England are:

1. Merseyside: The Merseyside Police force area, which covers Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral, has the highest crime rate in England. In the 12 months to September 2022, there were an estimated 127,626 crimes recorded per 1,000 people in Merseyside.

2. Greater Manchester: The Greater Manchester Police force area, which covers Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan, has the second highest crime rate in England. In the 12 months to September 2022, there were an estimated 118,306 crimes recorded per 1,000 people in Greater Manchester.

3. West Midlands: The West Midlands Police force area, which covers Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton, has the third highest crime rate in England. In the 12 months to September 2022, there were an estimated 117,585 crimes recorded per 1,000 people in the West Midlands.

4. Humberside: The Humberside Police force area, which covers Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, has the fourth highest crime rate in England. In the 12 months to September 2022, there were an estimated 116,625 crimes recorded per 1,000 people in Humberside.

5. Lancashire: The Lancashire Police force area, which covers Lancashire, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen, has the fifth highest crime rate in England. In the 12 months to September 2022, there were an estimated 115,964 crimes recorded per 1,000 people in Lancashire.
