Has Buckingham Palace changed over time?

Buckingham Palace has undergone numerous changes and expansions throughout its history. Initially, it was a large townhouse known as Buckingham House, built in the 1700s for the Duke of Buckingham. In the late 1760s, King George III acquired the property and commissioned the architect John Nash to transform it into a royal palace. Nash extended the building, adding wings and rooms to create a grand palace fit for the growing royal family. Later in the 19th century, Queen Victoria and her consort Prince Albert oversaw further renovations, including the addition of the famous East Front, which features a large balcony and is often used for royal events and ceremonies. The palace continues to undergo maintenance and restoration work to preserve its historical significance and accommodate the needs of the modern royal family.
