The Snowy Mountains Scheme was a major engineering and construction project undertaken in Southeastern Australia between 1949 and 1974 resulting in the construction of 16 major dams, 7 power stations, and 225 kilometers (140 mi) of tunnels pipelines, and canals. The total cost of the scheme was approximately $820 million Australian Dollars (A$820 million) at the time of completion.
