When did Britain withdraw from Palestine?

Britain unilaterally ended its 30-year-long trusteeship for Palestine through the 1948 Palestine Act during May 14-15 1948. Although a British force under General Gordon MacMillan stayed behind into June (to cover for the arrival of United Nations peacekeepers and provide general stability) the British High Commissioner left at midnight on May 14, along with all diplomatic assets from within Mandatory Palestine. Although British military assets also gradually vacated their postings around the British Mandate over the course of May, some elements were still leaving through 31 May.
