How to Track Flight Status

Your friend's flight is late and you sit at the airport for three hours, waiting -- because you didn't check the status of his flight before you went to pick him up. Perhaps you need to confirm what time your plane is leaving; missing a flight would be a disaster. Checking flight status can save you a lot of time and inconvenience. And when it comes to air travel, already a complicated and expensive process, you should use every advantage you can get.

Instructions

    • 1

Know the flight number of the flight you are checking. If you don't know the flight number, some websites will allow you to search by departure/destination city, the airline, and scheduled takeoff/arrival time.

The flight number is a code, usually two letters (describing the airline) and then a series of numbers. Having it will make looking up your flight status much easier.

    • 2

Go to a website like Flightstats or Flightview and type in your information. It is a simple process and takes only a little time. Submit the information.

    • 3

Look at the status of your flight -- you can tell if it is arriving late or on time, when it's supposed to take off, the flight number, and current status of the airplane (landed, flying, etc.)
