How did potato arrive in UK?
Potatoes first arrived in the British Isles in the 16th century, having been brought back by Spanish explorers from South America. They were initially rare and considered a luxury food, and were mostly grown by the wealthy and upper classes. Gradually, potatoes became more widely available and were adopted by the wider population. By the 18th century, potatoes had become a staple food in many parts of the British Isles, including Ireland and Scotland.
