How did Blackpool get its name?

Blackpool gets its name from the Anglo-Saxon word "blac-pol," which means "dark pool." The town is located on the Fylde coast of Lancashire, England, and was originally a small fishing village. In the 18th century, Blackpool began to develop as a seaside resort, and by the 19th century it had become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the United Kingdom. Today, Blackpool is home to a number of attractions, including the Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure Beach, and the Sandcastle Water Park.
