Where are Scottish kings crowned?
The monarchs of Scotland were traditionally crowned at Scone Abbey, which is located around 2 miles north-east of Perth. The abbey was founded in the 12th century and became the traditional site for royal coronations in Scotland. The Stone of Destiny, an ancient symbol of Scottish sovereignty, was kept at Scone Abbey and is said to have been used as the coronation seat of Scottish kings. Following the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, the Stone of Destiny was removed to England and installed in Westminster Abbey, where it remains today.
