What is Luton exactly and it in London?

Luton is a large town in the county of Bedfordshire, England, about 35 miles (56 km) north of London. It falls in the Luton/Dunstable urban area, the Luton and Hitchin travel to work area and the Thames Gateway. The town is known for its diverse population and its Hat Factory Arts Centre.

Luton is not part of Greater London, but it is part of the London Metropolitan Area, a concept similar to the Greater London Area, which includes all the towns in Hertfordshire and Essex that lie within the M25 motorway (but not the counties themselves) and all the towns and cities within a certain distance from London that are linked to it in terms of commuter patterns and functional conurbations.
